Welcome to Far Recon!

Where Are You?

Welcome to Far Recon, an IRC based roleplaying game for the SCP Foundation. You are an operative of Special Task Force Alpha-354 "Poolboys", housed at Area 354, a facility dedicated to containing SCP-354, "The Red Pool". Your duty is to perform interdiction operations against emergence events precipitated by SCP-354 as well as providing countermeasures against secondary anomalous phenomena arising from proximity to SCP-354. In addition to these primary duties, STF-A-354 may be assigned such other duties as required by the Foundation's current operational tempo.

The Red Pool is a hostile pool to be sure. It's filled with extra-dimensional beasts of all sorts. Not to mention entering it can lead to another dimension, where possibilities are endless. You may even live out Gears' fantasy of meeting your Nazi-self, who knows?

Now settle in, join the chat, and we'll see what we can do from there. Once you're in, take a look at the Character Creation Guide for advice on where to start your Far Recon adventures.

What's Happening In-Character?

  • 7/31/2014: Agents Song, McCallahan, Steinburg, Bragg and Taggart acted quickly, heading off a potential emergence event. Agents are reminded to carry water during Pool operations.
  • 4/26/2014: Agents Brynja, McCallahan, Wallace and Taggart have been commended for their swift reaction as a firefight erupted during a search-and-recovery mission at a cabin suspected to house anomalous items.
  • 1/03/2014: Site 354 would like to mourn the passing of Simon Cotterell who died peacefully on the banks of the Red Pool during a nighttime mission. He will be missed by those he worked with at the Site, having served the longest out of the Task Force. He is survived by his adopted daughter Eriko Bushnell-Ishikawa, and Ralph Bushnell, who have arranged a memorial service on the 7th.
  • 10/27/2013: Agent Gregory Powell has passed away, after receiving an infection from wounds sustained during an operation in Burma. Although valiant effort from his comrades subdued the monster, they were unable to stop Greg from succumbing to his wounds. Agent Powell, a longtime personnel stationed at the pool, who was trusted and known by all, shall be missed more than he could have ever known.
  • 9/25/2013 - Since the last update, Mark Williamson, Hank Viewegar, Kevin Taylor, and Daniel Alden have joined the red pool team.
  • 8/8/2013 - Agents Taggart, Tarik, Caiaphas, Brynja, Ishikawa, and Saro were given commendations for keeping cool under extreme circumstances, when they were transformed into dogs. The sub taken in this mission was destroyed, and will be replaced without demerits due to the circumstance of its loss.
  • 7/29/2013 - Agents Taggart, Song, Smith, Ishikawa, and Saro are to be commended for successfully interrupting an emergence event before it was able to arrive.
  • 7/17/2013 - Agents Steinburg, Bushnell, MacLean, King, Ishikawa and Saro arrived successfully from a potential emergence event. Agents Saro and King are to spend time in Medical until their injuries are healed, and Agents Steinburg, Ishikawa and King are given commendations for effective work in the given situation.
  • 7/5/2013 - Agents Powell, Taggart, and Kleist, and Researcher Ishikawa are to be commended for their quick thinking in destroying a nest of anomalous subterranean creatures. They have also been reprimanded for carelessness and ordered to refrain from burning the surrounding woods down in the future.
  • 6/27/2013 - The staff member in charge of updating new personnel arrivals was found to have been playing Q*Bert all month, and has been sacked. Please give a belated welcome to June Saro, Howard King, and Dougie Maclean. Other names lost to the depths of the filing system are currently being searched for.

What's Happening Out-Of-Character?

  • 7/19/2014: Our rewrite is going live! Pages will be converted to the new system throughout the day. Please watch this space for further announcements. All players must convert their character to the new system: Please use the new character template to do so. Congratulations to Pres, Tehpillowstar, and Echo for their promotions.
  • March 2014: Tehpillowstar has been promoted to contributor in an effort to boost activity.
  • 2/10/2014 - New Unlockable Equipment is up! And since some items have changed in price, be sure to check the page against what you have and submit refund requests.
  • 12/30/2013 - Roget has transferred owner to TheRaven, and is going to be seeking new opportunities elsewhere. He will remain in the game as a contributor with the same status as Salmander and Dexanote. Snowshoe and Alivi will remain in their current positions, with any new GMs being assigned as TheRaven sees fit. Good luck, to all of you!
  • 11/29/2013 - Edits have been made to the Unlockable Equipment page and the Character Creation page, specifically allowing certain equipment to be obtained before runs, and for character development post-sheet approval, respectively. Check it out! If you bought some equipment which has now been made free, you are entitled to an XP refund!
  • 11/06/2013 - Lurk D and Wogglebug have both been promoted to contributor! Woooo!
  • 9/25/2013 - AgentFlowers has been demoted and temporarily banned for a period of time to be determined by the GM team. Please direct all questions to members of the GM team, in PM.
  • 09/14/2013 - We had a very spirited roundtable discussion on Load, weapon damage and other topics. Many thanks to all who attended what's been dubbed Arguing - The Run. ShockwaveLover will be drafting up the agreed on changes, and putting them up for everybody to look over in the near future. First run with the changes should be this weekend.
  • 8/26/2013 - Soulless has been promoted to full GM! Go congratulate him and stuff.
  • 8/12/2013 - There is a temporary halt on creating new characters in the Security department, due to the overwhelming majority of characters already being within that department. If you are creating a new character, please place them in a department other than security.
  • 7/18/2013 - Languages will soon be dependent entirely on background, instead of requiring points in academics. Our strong criteria for justifying in-game abilities based on character background will remain in use. In addition, we're looking at varying levels of fluency. Academics will be buffed to compensate, and we'll have more on how exactly to transition your characters soon. But it's mostly gonna be "take your new languages to a GM for approval".
  • 7/10/2013 - Pres has, with the aesthetic assistance of Roget, created a page for Scheduled Runs. In addition, Roget has gone and made the sidebar all pretty. Huzzah!
  • 06/27/2013 - Snowshoe and Soulless and AgentFlowers are promoted to the role of Contributor. Give them good times.
